Ellen Cline Sculpture:
A pictorial on process--from concept to finish
Using lots of photos and drawings from bird books, I make a simple drawing on graph paper the size I want the sculpture to be.
Then I work by hand on the clay model.
I make a plaster mold taken off the clay model, and clean up the mold so there are no areas of entrapment.
I press wet paper pulp into this negative image.
When it dries, I pull out the cast paper. You can see the bits of iron oxide left from the clay in the mold on this first casting.
The finished piece painted with gesso, acrylics and enamels.
